“The white-tailed jackrabbit is a large species of hare and the largest species called ‘jackrabbit’.

It has distinctive, large, grey ears with black tips which are chestnut brown and white on the inside and the long, powerful hind legs characteristic of hares. The back, flanks and limbs are dark brown or greyish-brown and the underparts are pale grey.

In northern populations, this hare moults in the autumn and becomes white all over except for its ears.

They attempt to evade detection by crouching in the vegetation where their cryptic colouration makes them difficult to observe. They may slink away, but if detected, they bound away at speed, adopting a zigzag course. They can run up to 55 km/hr and leap up to 5 m.”

“We’ve been taking down some of the sick trees up and down the neighbourhood. They’re gonna rip up the sidewalks and fix them all up, it’s just the first step. This piece got stuck in the chipper, so we had to shut it down and saw it out. Yeah, it’s a good day to be out here: the sun is shining, it’s nice out, everyone is looking good.” Shane.

“His name is ‘Diego Sanchez Megatron Noble’. I know, he’s dressed like he’s going to start a revolution. He’s about six years-old. I’m just looking after him, he’s my friends dog.

I’m gonna head down to the art store and get some supplies. Nice meeting you!”

“Find the place between the old and the young. That’s where you live. Trust me, I’ve been here enough years. Eventually, the people who you look after will grow old and you won’t be long behind them. It’s good to have neighbours that you trust, they’ll be the ones checking in on you to make sure you’re okay. It happened in the flood a couple years ago, it’ll happen again somehow. I’m sure of that.”

“Oh I don’t know. Spring started back in January as far as I’m concerned. I just hope that all these trees don’t start growing their leafs just to have a snow storm come and ruin it all in April.

Anyways, as far as I’m concerned, it’s when the larch trees start sprouting their pines. You ever seen it happen? It’s pretty neat. There’s one sprouting right now on Gladstone and 11 Street. You should go shoot a picture of it. Neatest thing in the world.”

“We’ve been doing the Easter Egg Hunt for six years. There’s a couple of houses down the block that participate too. It’s a really great way for the kids and families to get together. Starbucks on Kensington has been really great in supplying the coffee. I think we’re gonna get some hot dogs going for the kids here pretty soon”

“This one took a couple of days. We painted a layer on it first, but we lost a lot of the texture from the rocks. They get a lot of grafitti, you know? So they decided to put a mural here. It’s a street scene from Florence. Well, it’s an impression of a street scene.

I take my time. I’m retired so I don’t work as fast as I used to. I’ve been doing these murals for years. I’ve got another one down the street on the red brick building. It’s a scene from France at night–well, an impression of one.” Bob, painting a mural on the brick parking lot divider at Osteria De Medici, along Kensington Road and 10th Street NW.

“I’m Kamil and these are my records. It’s record day on Wednesday…. or whenever I feel like doing this.

The Crosley is awesome because it has its own built in pre-amp. Yeah, I can pick it up and take it anywhere. I brought a lot of my own 45s, but I haven’t gotten to them yet tonight.”

Kamil hosts a record night on Wednesday evenings, playing vinyl from his own collection (or whatever attendees bring with them), at The Roasterie on 10th Street NW.
